Historical Sites


Good afternoon, this week’s article is going to be a little different. In the past I have share with everyone some history of Shelby County, but do you know where the historical sites in the county are located? So, this week I am going to share where some of those sites are located. This is by no means all the historical sites in Shelby County. These are just the ones highlighted this week.  Spring is on its way so get out and explore this wonderful area known as “Shelby County”. I am enclosing a map showing the location of each historical site.

  8. Sydney O. Pennington grave, Shelbyville Cemetery on Hwy 87 S
  9. Moses Fisk Roberts grave, Shelbyville Cemetery on Hwy 87 S
  10.  First County Seat, intersection of FM 417 and Hwy 87 S, at top of hill in Shelbyville
  11.  First Methodist Church of Shelbyville, off Hwy 87 S in Shelbyville on FM 417 W
  12.  Site of Last Battle of Regular-Moderator War, 1 mile southeast on Hwy 87 outside of Shelbyville
  13.  Old Methodist Episcopal Church, 14 miles southeast of Shelbyville on Hwy 147
  14.  The Bickham House (Welcome Hall), 2 miles east of Shelbyville on FM 2694
  15.  Myrick Ferry Log House, 14 miles east of FM 2694 and then FM 3172 south then on U.S. Forestry Service Road 100.
  16.  Fellowship Baptist Church, 15 miles northeast on Hwy 7 then turn on FM 2767 S (Note: New address for this church is 140 CR 3569, Joaquin)
  17. Truitt Cemetery, 11 miles northeast on Hwy 7 Eturn on CR 3169 (sign on highway indicates Truitt cemetery), turn left at 1st cross street onto CR 3173 about 1.2 miles, Joaquin
